Multiple users on Reddit reported that their M4 iPad Pro went black during the iPadOS 18 update process, with the tablets no longer turning on after the update apparently failed to install.
“We have temporarily removed the iPadOS 18 update for M4 iPad Pro models as we work to resolve an issue that is impacting a small number of devices,” Apple said yesterday in a statement shared with MacRumors.
Apple’s M4 iPad Pros were released in May, and they were the first devices to launch with Apple’s latest M-Series chip. As of this writing, it’s not exactly clear if this issue is affecting many people using the latest iPad Pro, but users of other iPad models appear to be unaffected.
iPadOS 18 was released on Monday alongside iOS 18, macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, and visionOS 2 and . This update brings more ways to customize the Home Screen, a new Calculator app, a redesigned Photos app, and more flexible handwritten notes with Smart Script. For iPad users in the EU, iPadOS 18 also enables alternative app stores and browser engines to make the OS comply with the Digital Markets Act.
