Report: Apple to Launch New iPhone SE With iPhone 14 Design in Spring 2025

Apple is reportedly planning to launch a new version of its low-cost iPhone SE in Spring 2025, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. This fourth-gen iPhone SE is expected to be announced alongside new iPad Air models and an updated version of Apple’s Magic Keyboard.

The third-gen current iPhone SE, which Apple released in Spring 2022, still uses the design of the iPhone 8 with a 4.7-inch display and a Home button with Touch ID. It looks really outdated compared to modern smartphones with edge-to-edge displays. However there are probably still people who prefer the Home button and Touch ID over Face ID and the new swipe gestures introduced on the iPhone X.

According to Gurman’s sources, the fourth-gen iPhone SE will use the same body as the iPhone 14 from 2022. This was the last iPhone model to feature the notch that was introduced on the iPhone X to hide the FaceTime camera and Face ID sensor. All models since the iPhone 15 have replaced the notch with the more discreet “Dynamic island” feature.

Gurman believes that the fourth-gen iPhone SE will support Apple Intelligence, which means that it could come with the same A18 chip and 8GB of memory as the brand new iPhone 16. The current iPhone SE is priced at $429 in the US, so it will be interesting to see if the 4th gen model will be in the same price range.

Apple could also launch new iPad Air models in Spring 2025 in addition to this new iPhone SE. The new tablets should come with a newer chip than the Apple M2 but keep the same design. Gurman also expects Apple to release a redesigned version of its Magic Keyboard that will add some of the features of its more expensive iPad Pro keyboards.

These new iPad Airs may be preceded by a new version of the iPad Mini by the end of the year. This model hasn’t been updated since September 2021, and it’s overdue for an update. Apple is also planning to launch its first M4-based Macs this fall, including a redesigned version of the Mac Mini that could be as small as the latest Apple TV.
