One week after it released iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, tvOS 26, watchOS 26, and visionOS 26, Apple has delivered the first beta versions of their successors to developers.
I’m flying as I write this and I only have an iPad with me at the moment, so I can’t really see what’s new for myself. And details are light, regardless. So I’m sure we’ll learn more in time.
For now, 9to5Mac reports that iOS 26.1 Beta 1 adds the following changes and updates:
- AirPods Live Translation gets support for five new languages—Chinese (Mandarin, simplified), Chinese (Mandarin, traditional), Italian, Japanese, and Korean—in addition to English (US), English (UK), French, German, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish (Spain)
- Apple Intelligence adds support for eight new languages: Chinese (traditional), Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese (Portugal), Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese.
- Apple Music adds a swipe gesture to the mini player so you can change tracks.
- Apple Calendar gets a graphical update in which events in list view now display on top of a colored background instead of just showing an accent color at the left.
- Photos gets a improved playback scrubber.
- The keypad in the Phone app now supports Liquid Glass.
And iPadOS 26.1 Beta 1 gets a new UI for Safari downloads. Obviously, there’s more than that, but that’s all I can find right now.
I will have to wait until Friday to install these updates on my MacBook Air, iPhone, Apple Watch, and TV.
