Apple TV is Now Priced at $14.99/Month in the US

Apple is raising the price of its Apple TV subscription service from $12.99 to $14.99/month in the US (via Variety). The change is effective today, August 28, for new subscribers, with existing ones to be notified nearly a month before the new price comes into effect.

The new annual price for Apple TV is also going up from $99 to 119. Apple is also raising the price of its Apple One Individual subscription, which bundels together iCloud+ (50GB), Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness+, and Apple News+, indluces APple TV, Apple, Apple TV, Apple Music, iCloud+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, and Apple Fitness+ from $19.95 to $21.95 per month.

Apple TV is now three times more expensive than its original $4.99/month launch price in 2019, but it also has far more quality content. Besides critically acclaimed original shows such as Silo, Ted Lasso, Severance, and Pluribus, Apple had its first box office hit with F1: The Movie, which became the highest-grossing sports movie of all time before its streaming debut in December.

While Apple TV currently has over 300 original TV shows and movies, Apple also struck content licensing deals with studios to bring more Hollywood movies to the service in the US. Still, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ currently offer more content at a lower monthly price thanks to ad-supported plans. Apple is unlikely to go down that route, however, just like the company is apparently not interested in launching a free ad-supported Apple Music tier to compete with Spotify.
