Microsoft to Fix Outlook Crashes Caused by Uber Receipt Emails

Microsoft is working to fix a bug causing Outlook to become unresponsive when opening emails with tables, including Uber receipts. The bug is currently affecting users in the Current Channel, Current Channel Preview, and Beta Channel.

The company acknowledged the bug in a support note published on July 29 (via Bleeping Computer). “When opening, replying, or forwarding some emails that include complex tables, Outlook stops responding. The same table contents will also cause Word to stop responding,” Microsoft explained.

The Word team has already fixed the bug in an update that will be released to the Beta channel very soon. For Outlook users, a fix will be coming with this month’s Patch Tuesday updates to be released next week on August 9. In the meantime, users who want to avoid the bug can use commands to revert Office to an earlier build. You can find more details on the aforementioned support page.

In other Outlook-related news, Microsoft also released a new Outlook Lite app for Android users in select markets this week. The new client is optimized for slow networks and devices with just 1GB of RAM, though it currently only supports personal Microsoft accounts and Exchange Online accounts.
