OpenAI announced a new subscription plan called ChatGPT Plus that costs $20 per month and improves the performance and accessibility of the service.
“We launched ChatGPT as a research preview so we could learn more about the system’s strengths and weaknesses and gather user feedback to help us improve upon its limitations,” the announcement post explains. “Since then, millions of people have given us feedback, we’ve made several important updates and we’ve seen users find value across a range of professional use-cases, including drafting and editing content, brainstorming ideas, programming help, and learning new topics.”

ChatGPT Plus will build on those improvements by adding faster response times and priority access to new features and improvements. But it will also answer a key criticism of the ChatGPT service since it’s exploded in popularity by providing subscribers with access to ChatGPT, even during peak times. The free service will continue, but it will remain available to only a limited number of users during peak times.
ChatGPT Plus will launch first in the United States in the coming weeks, OpenAI says. It will then expand to additional countries and regions.
