Microsoft Will Share its Vision of the Future of Work With AI on March 16

Microsoft announced today that it will hold an event about “the future of work with AI” on March 16 at 8 AM PT. The event will be live-streamed, and it will feature Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and CVP of Modern Work and Business Applications Jared Spataro.

The Redmond giant is expected to detail how it’s going to integrate technology from ChatGPT maker OpenAI into its Office productivity suite. The company has already launched a new AI-powered Bing in preview last month, and the new Bing capabilities are also available from Microsoft Edge and Skype.

Back in January, The Information reported that Microsoft was working to bring ChatGPT capabilities to Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other apps to allow users to “automatically generate text using simple prompts.” However, Microsoft may need to proceed carefully: Despite a lot of early positive buzz, users quickly found out that the new AI-powered Bing could go off the rails quite easily.

It will also be interesting to see if Microsoft will make these AI-powered features in Office freely accessible or if some of them will require a Microsoft 365 subscription. As you may know, Microsoft has already experimented with such a freemium model with its Microsoft Editor writing assistant.

Anyway, Microsoft appears to be ready to go all-in on AI in 2023. Earlier today, the company announced Dynamics 365 Copilot, the world’s first AI-powered copilot in both CRM and ERP. The software giant also announced new generative AI features in Power Virtual Agents and AI Builder for content generation.
