VPN by Google One is Now Available For All Subscribers

Google announced today that all Google One subscribers are now getting access to Google’s own VPN, which was previously only available with plans offering 2TB of storage or higher. For subscribers in the US, Google One is also adding dark web reports for monitoring stolen personal information.

“Starting today, and rolling out over the next few weeks, we’re expanding VPN access to all Google One plans, including the Basic plan that starts at $1.99/mo. The VPN will be available in 22 countries across Android, iOS, Windows and Mac devices. You can also share the VPN with up to five others if they’re on your Google One plan,” Google announced today.

Google’s VPN originally launched in November, and it provides encrypted transit and IP masking. Using a VPN is especially recommended when using public Wi-Fi networks to protect yourself from hackers. Hiding your IP address also prevents other people from knowing your location.

The new dark web reports Google also announced today will help Google One subscribers in the US monitor if their personal information is being shared on the dark web. “A lot of this stolen info can be found on the dark web, a hard-to-reach part of the internet that requires a specialized browser to access and isn’t indexed by search engines,” Google emphasized.

When enabling dark web reports, Google One subscribers can choose which type of personal information (name, address, email, phone number, social security number) they would like to be scanned. If something has been found, dark web reports will provide steps to help users protect themselves from identity fraud.

Dark web reports will start rolling out in the US over the next few weeks. Google has yet to announce if this new Google One feature will eventually launch in other markets.
