Google Workspace Gets More Expensive

Those new AI features aren’t going to pay for themselves: Google announced this week that it is raising the monthly cost of all Workspace tiers.

“Since launching Google Workspace in October 2020, we’ve delivered hundreds of new features to fuel secure collaboration from anywhere, including more than 300 in 2022 alone,” Google vice president Steve Holt writes in the announcement post. “The updates range from improvements to our world-class security and reliability that are required by our largest customers, to tools that increase the simplicity and helpfulness desired by smaller teams. The power of our apps running in the cloud is that these enhancements are immediately available to all our customers, increasing the value we deliver.”

And now they’re going to increase the cost too: effective immediately, each Google Workspace tier is seeing a monthly price increase. Business Starter is going from $6 per account per month to $7.20. Business Standard is going from $12 to $14.40. And Business Plus is going from $18 to $21.60.

To soften the blow, Google Workspace subscriptions with fewer than 10 user licenses will not see a price increase until next January. And for bigger companies, Google is (re)introducing annual and multi-year payment plans that will lower the cost over those time periods. But you have to commit to a certain number of licenses, and in the case of multi-year plans, you must contact your Google Sales representative. Good luck figuring any of that out.
