Windows 365 Cloud PCs Get New Frontline Option and Smart TV App

Microsoft is expanding its Windows 365 Cloud PC offering today with a new option for shift and part-time workers. Windows 365 Frontline, which is now available in public preview, will allow customers to use a single license to configure up to three Cloud PCs.

“These Cloud PCs can be used by any employee, as long as only one employee per license is active at any given time. So instead of purchasing Windows 365 Frontline for every employee, you only need to purchase the number of licenses required to support the maximum number of concurrent active users,” Microsoft explained.

Organizations interested in Windows 365 Frontline will still be able to buy licenses for different Cloud PC configurations and manage them all with Microsoft Intune. They will also be able to configure a Session Time Limit policy to make sure that a Frontline license is released and free to use for another employee.

Microsoft originally launched Windows 365 back in July 2021, and the cloud service makes Windows 10 and Windows 11 Cloud PCs available on any device that has a web browser. While the software giant is working on better integrating Cloud PCs on Windows 11, Scott Manchester, designer and director of Windows 365 told The Verge that an offline feature is also in the works.

Last but not least, a new Windows 365 app is now available on 2023 smart TVs from LG. The app is expected to be coming to older LG TV models at some point, but Microsoft is still being vague about supporting other TV manufacturers. “You’re going to see a lot of partners that are interested in this… you can imagine there’s probably a long line of partners that are interested in a very similar experience,” Manchester said.
