LinkedIn Launches Free Profile Verification Features

LinkedIn introduced today three different ways to verify your identity on the professional network. And unlike recent initiatives from Twitter and Meta, these new profile verification features are free for all LinkedIn members.

“On LinkedIn, when you show that you’re the real you, you’ll have an even greater chance of finding the professional opportunities that matter to you and your community,” the company said today. The professional social network previously introduced last year an “About this profile” feature that shows when a profile was created and if there is a phone number and/or work email associated with it. However, the new profile verification features announced today are more explicit.

LinkedIn users now have three different ways to show on their profile that their identity has been verified:

CLEAR: In the US, LinkedIn has teamed up with the secure identity platform CLEAR to let users verify their identity by providing a U.S. government-issued ID and phone number.

Company email: LinkedIn users can use their company-issued email address to verify their identity on the platform. This currently works for over 4,000 companies and LinkedIn plans to add more soon.

Microsoft Entra: Later this month, over two million LinkedIn members will be able to verify their identity using a Microsoft Entra Verified ID credential, which is included with an Azure Active Directory Free subscription.

“While all LinkedIn members globally won’t have access to these verification options immediately, we will expand availability and ways for you to participate over time,” the company said today. LinkedIn doesn’t get as much attention as other social platforms these days, but these free profile verification features are welcome and they may help to address the fake profiles problem that has been plaguing the platform for years.
