Zoom Launches Meeting Summary and Chat Compose Features

Zoom Meeting summaries

Zoom detailed today some new generative AI capabilities coming to Zoom IQ, the company’s AI-powered smart companion. Zoom customers with eligible plans can now try intelligent meeting summaries that can be shared with all attendees. This is a feature that Microsoft already supports with its Teams Premium add-on.

“Zoom Meeting hosts can now create a summary powered by Zoom’s own large language models and share it via Zoom Team Chat and email without recording the conversation. Hosts receive automated summaries and can share them with attendees and those who didn’t attend to improve team collaboration and speed up productivity,” the company explained.

The second new Zoom IQ feature that’s launching today is Chat compose, which can help users draft chat messages using the context of the conversation. There’s also an option to change the tone of a message, similar to what Microsoft’s Bing chatbot can do.

These two features are available as a free trial within the Zoom admin console. The company emphasized that customers can opt out of data sharing with Zoom and that customer data won’t be used to train third-party models.

Zoom is planning to introduce more generative AI features soon, including chat thread summaries. The ability to draft email content will also come in the coming weeks, and users will also be able to organize draft and synthesize whiteboard content in the coming months.
