The new native version of WhatsApp for Mac, which has been available in beta since January, is now available on the Mac App Store. Until now, this new WhatsApp app was only available as a standalone download from WhatsApp’s website.
Compared to the previous web-based version, this new client introduces a redesigned UI that makes WhatsApp look more like a native Mac app. It can also be used without an active connection to the WhatsApp app on your phone, and you can also enable notifications for incoming calls when the app is closed.

The new WhatsApp for Mac also adds support for group calls. You can talk with up to 8 people in video calls and up to 32 people in audio calls, and also join a group call after it has already been stated. Another new feature is the ability to drag and drop files into a chat conversation.
While a native version of WhatsApp is now available on the Mac App Store, the company has also started testing a new iPad app in beta. This has been a top-requested feature for many years, though there’s still no ETA on when this new iPad app will become generally available.
