Ignite 2023: Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise Become “Copilot”

Microsoft Copilot

Microsoft kicked off its Ignite conference for IT pros in Seattle this week, and the company is making a lot of AI-related announcements this morning. The new Bing Chatbot, which is available on the web, the Microsoft Edge sidebar, and the new Copilot assistant on Windows 11 is being rebranded to just “Copilot”. It’s also available on a new URL, copilot.microsoft.com.

“Our efforts to simplify the user experience and make Copilot more accessible to everyone starts with Bing, our leading experience for the web. Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprise will now simply become Copilot,” Microsoft announced this morning. The company also added that Copilot will be “out or preview and become generally available starting December 1.”

Bing Chat Enterprise, which was announced back in July, offers the same experience as the regular Bing chatbot with the addition of commercial data protection for organizations with a Microsoft 365 subscription. The company is now referring to this enterprise version of the chatbot as “Copilot with commercial data protection.”

As of today, organizations can get Copilot with commercial data protection at no additional cost with a Microsoft 365 E3, E5, Business Standard and Business Premium subscription. In July, the company also said that the chatbot will also be available as a standalone subscription costing $5 per user per month.

“Over time, we will also expand eligibility of Copilot with commercial data protection to even more Entra ID (formerly Azure Active ID) users at no additional cost,” Microsoft said today. The company has many other Copilot announcements this morning, including new features in Copilot for Microsoft 365.
