TikTok is Now Optimized for Tablets and Foldables

TikTok, the app that probably made vertical video somewhat acceptable is now optimized for larger screens, including tablets and foldable devices. The company said the latest app update offers a “complete upgrade” on larger screens with support for landscape or portrait use, seamless navigation, and other updates.

“People can now watch their favorite videos on larger screens and experience a clear video feed, streamlined navigation bars, and orientation support that will take their TikTok journey to the next level,” the company said today. “As part of this experience, we are looking to continue experimenting with features like Topic Feeds, which allows people to explore videos across categories like Gaming, Food, Fashion, and Sports.”

Despite its massive popularity, many organizations recently decided to ban TikTok over privacy and security concerns. The app is also often criticized for its addictiveness and inclination to spread stupid trends. However, whether you like it or not, TikTok still allows a lot of content creators to find an audience today, and any company thinking about its social media strategy should now be taking TikTok into account.

TikTok, which crossed 1 billion monthly active users in 2021, has already inspired competitors in the social media space. On YouTube, Google launched a new vertical video format named Shorts, and these videos now get 70 billion daily views on average. Instagram also launched its TikTok-inspired Reels format, but unlike YouTube, the app isn’t optimized for tablets yet.
