Facebook Messenger now allows users to send photos in high definition and send bigger files. Similar to how Meta previously implemented HD photos on WhatsApp, users need to manually turn on the new HD toggle after selecting pictures from their library to send them in high definition.
In the coming weeks, users will also be able to create shared albums right from a group chat. A “Create album” button will appear when doing a long press on a photo in the chat or when selecting multiple photos from the chat composer. Shared albums in a group chat will also be easy to find by tapping on the group chat name and then on “Media.”

Today, the messaging app is also adding support for bigger file shares. Users can now share files up to 100MB, and the most common file formats are supported including Word, Excel, and PDF.
Lastly, another new feature now available in Facebook Messenger is the ability to add new contacts with a QR code. Users can either scan the QR code available in the app’s settings or share their QR code with others via a link. This has become a common feature on other messaging apps, and it’s also something Meta’s WhatsApp app already had for quite some time.
