Proton today announced a new Proton Duo plan that offers all the features in Proton Unlimited, but for two people instead of one. It’s an interesting option for those that don’t need Proton Family.
“If a partner or family member is still using Google to send emails, store documents, or offload photos, it’s likely they’re inadvertently exposing the sensitive, valuable information you took precautions to protect,” Proton’s Anant Vijay writes in the announcement post. “That’s why we’re introducing Proton Duo, a new plan designed to make online privacy easy for two people with 1 TB of storage space. You both get to enjoy your own encrypted email address, calendar, secure storage for files, photos, and passwords, and a VPN to browse securely. With Proton Duo, you will have the peace of mind that comes with knowing your digital lives are truly private.”
To understand the value here, Proton Unlimited costs $9.99 per month when billed annually, and that provides an individual with 500 GB of storage with full access to Proton Mail, Proton Drive, Proton Calendar, Proton Pass, and Proton VPN, support for 3 custom email domains, 25 personal calendars, encrypted file sharing, various Proton Pass perks, and more. Proton Duo offers 1 TB of storage plus everything else in Proton Unlimited for $19.99 per month (when billed annually), but it’s on sale for $14.99 per month when billed annually. That’s a savings of $60 (for the year). You also get a bonus 15 GB of additional storage for each year you use the service.
This is tempting. I’m evaluating Proton Pass now and have fallen hard for it, and am considering going all-in on Proton. This might be what puts it over the top.
