Windows 365 Link, Microsoft’s first thin client for accessing Windows 365 Cloud PCs is now generally available. The device is priced at $349.99/£349.99/€419, but it’s only available to purchase from select enterprise resellers.
Microsoft officially announced Windows 365 Link at its Ignite conference in November. This is the first Cloud PC hardware device designed to let users connect to cloud-based Windows 11 or Windows 10 virtual machines, and it’s secure by design with the absence of support for local apps and data storage.
“The devices can be set up in minutes, require minimal configuration and are familiar for IT to manage using Microsoft Intune. End users – particularly desk-based or frontline workers in shared workspaces – can efficiently sign in to access their Windows 365 Cloud PCs, work securely with responsive, high-fidelity experiences and leave no data on the local devices when they sign out,” the company explained today.
Windows 365 Cloud PCs can also be accessed from any web browser or the new Windows App, which is now generally available on Android and ChromeOS in addition to Windows, iOS, and macOS.
Microsoft offers different Windows 365 subscriptions for businesses and government customers. Windows 365 Frontline, a new offering dedicated to shift and part-time workers, is getting better with a new shared mode designed specifically for workers who only require access to a Cloud PC to perform specialized tasks for a short time during their workday.
“With shared mode, businesses can purchase Cloud PCs based on the number of active users needing access at any given time: one Windows 365 Frontline license provides access to one shared Cloud PC, which can be accessed by any number of users, one at a time,” the company explained.
Windows 365 Frontline in shared mode is currently available in public preview, and you can learn more details about this new capability on this support page.
