Google Wallet is Dropping PayPal Support in the US

Google Wallet

Google Wallet users in the US will soon no longer be able to use a linked PayPal account for payments. Google quietly announced on a support page spotted by Android Authority that linked PayPal accounts in Google Wallet will be automatically deleted from the Android app starting June 13, 2025.

On April 11, Google had already blocked the ability for US users to link their PayPal account directly to the Google Wallet app. While PayPal accounts that were already connected in the app can still be used for payments, that will end on June 13. On its support page, Google said that linking a PayPal account as a payment method to the Google Wallet app is now only supported in Germany.

It’s not exactly clear why Google is discontinuing this PayPal integration in Google Wallet in the US. The company is now advising affected users to update their default payment method and ensure that they have at least one card added to their Google account for online payments or recurring subscriptions.

The Google Wallet app will continue to support PayPal-branded debit cards in the US, however. For those unfamiliar, these cards allow users to pay with their PayPal balance everywhere Mastercard is accepted and earn 5% cash back on gas, groceries, and more.
