Proton announced a major upgrade for Proton Pass that it says transforms the password manager into what it calls an everything manager. It can now securely store any personal information with new item templates and customizable item creation capabilities.
“We’ve expanded the flexibility of what types of items you can create in Proton Pass [beyond] passwords and credit cards,” Proton’s Son Nguyen Kim writes. “You can choose from 14 new item types, including medical records, Wi-Fi settings, and driver’s licenses, or create your own fully customizable item if you need something unique. You can choose and name as many fields and sections as you need. Once created, you can share and pin these custom items or view their version history, just like with standard items. If you can’t fit information into a custom item, you can create an attachment for any type of file type, up to 10 GB.”
This is an incredible upgrade to one of the most important tech products I rely on every single day. Or, it will be, once I get it: Proton says that this new functionality is rolling out gradually to its browser extensions on all computers and devices, and is available to those with any paid Proton Pass plan. For now, I just see the usual set of item types: Login, Alias, Card, Note, Identity, and Password.
You can learn more about Proton Pass on the Proton website. I use Proton Pass and highly recommend it.
