Dropbox is Sunsetting its Password Manager

Dropbox Passwords

Dropbox is pulling the plug on Dropbox Passwords, the password manager it launched back in 2020. The app will be discontinued on October 28, 2025, but some features will be going away before that date.

“As part of our efforts to focus on enhancing other features in our core product, Dropbox Passwords will be discontinued on October 28, 2025. We recommend transferring your passwords to another password manager application such as 1Password—a highly trusted and secure password manager,” the company said in the announcement.

Here’s what Dropbox Passwords users can expect before the app is fully discontinued on October 28:

  • On August 28, the app will become view-only in both the mobile app and browser extension. It won’t be possible to add new passwords to the app, and its autofill feature will also stop working.
  • On September 11, the Dropbox Passwords mobile app will stop working, but password information will remain available through the dedicated browser extension.

The Dropbox Passwords browser extension makes it easy to export all personal data as a CSV file. 1Password also offers a straightforward way to import data from Dropbox Passwords. Lastly, the company assured that all personal data will be permanently and securely deleted when the Dropbox Passwords shuts down for good on October 28.
