WhatsApp is improving its Groups feature by allowing group admins and other members to share recent messages with newcomers. The company said that it has been a top-requested feature, and group admins have control over how many messages new members can see.
« When you add someone new to a group chat, you’ll see an option to send recent messages to them – from 25 up to 100 maximum. This keeps things simple, ensuring new members only need to read the most relevant, recent context, and the whole group can easily see the messages that have been shared, » the company explained in the announcement.
Group Message History is end-to-end encrypted, just like all messages sent on WhatsApp. Message history is also « visually distinct » from regular messages, and all group members will be notified if someone shares message history with a new member.
This new Group Message history feature will be rolling out gradually to all WhatsApp users. Group admins will still be able to disable the feature for their groups.
