Dark Mode Finally Comes to Word for the Web

Microsoft announced today that the Dark mode feature it promised to bring to Word on Web back in May is finally now available.

“As we spend more and more time in front of screens – whether computers or mobile devices – it becomes increasingly important to reduce eye strain and accommodate light sensitivity,” Microsoft’s Ali Forelli writes in the announcement. “With Dark Mode, Word offers a dark color scheme for both the menu controls and the document background.”

This doesn’t bear a lot of discussion, but I’m curious why the simplified ribbon you get with Word for the Web and the other Office Web Apps isn’t available in the desktop versions of Office (except for Outlook, which I wouldn’t use on your computer.)

Anyway, Dark Mode is currently rolling out and will be available to all users in Word for the Web.
