Microsoft Announces Loop 2.0

Microsoft Loop 2.0

Microsoft this week quietly announced the release of Loop 2.0, the first major update to its component-based collaborative productivity solution. Yes, the thing that looks like Notion and may or may not replace OneNote and/or Word someday.

“Introducing Loop 2.0!” the Microsoft Loop team tweeted. “We got a fresh new look, [and] we’ve made it easier to get to your meeting notes, favorites, recent, and more.”

New features they cite on Twitter include custom in-app notifications, a “Copy link” open to more easily share a workspace to potential new members, and link sharing across communications platforms (Outlook, Teams, and more). But looking at the Loop web app, I also see that collapsible section headers, custom templates, table automation, Figma integration, Kanban boards, video recording, and other new features have been added recently as well.

I’m not seeing the new UI, but Microsoft says it is “actively” rolling out Loop 2.0 to everyone, meaning both consumes and business users.

As you may recall, Microsoft announced Loop in November 2021 as the go-to-market product for its Fluid Framework. But the product has been on a slow boil ever since. The first public preview arrived in May 2023, and the 1.0 version didn’t ship until November 2023.
