OneDrive Introduces New File Restore Feature for Businesses

Microsoft is introducing a much-requested to OneDrive for Business. The company is rolling out a new File Restore feature starting today that lets users keep track of their files and restore them whenever they need.

While the main purpose of File Restore is to be able to restore files when they have been compromised or accidentally deleted, users can use the feature to get older versions of a file which is pretty handy. File Restore only works with files that are either on your OneDrive or the recycle bin, so if you remove files from your recycle bin, they will no longer be recoverable. You can also choose to restore a single file (similar to the regular OneDrive’s Version History feature) or your entire OneDrive.

“Files Restore is a complete self-service recovery solution that allows administrators and end users to restore files from any point in time during the last 30 days. If a user suspects their files have been compromised, they can investigate file changes and allow content owners to go back in time to any second in the last 30 days. Now your users and your administrators can rewind changes using activity data to find the exact moment to revert to,” said Microsoft’s Stephen Rose.

The rollout of File Restore has been kicked off today, and Microsoft will continue rolling the feature out to more users over the coming weeks.
