To be clear, there have been Skype web clients before. Microsoft began testing a preview Skype for web client three years ago. And it added web-based Skype calling to Microsoft Edge in 2016. What this is, is the new version of Skype in web form, similar to Skype for Windows 10 or Skype 8.x on the desktop.
Anyway, available features include:
HD video calling. You can perform one to one or group video calling, now with call reactions.
Call recording. You can now record important meetings with colleagues or family.
Notifications panel. Any missed calls, reactions, mentions, or whatever are accessible from the notification panel.
Chat media gallery.. You can find shared media, links and files in the chat gallery.
Find within conversations. You can now easily find messages in the current conversation.
You can learn more on the Skype for Web (Preview) FAQ.
