Tip: You Can Install OneNote 2016 from Windows Store Too

As you may know, Microsoft is slowly making much of Office 2016 available to Windows 10 users from the Windows Store. But OneNote is curiously absent: If you download Office 2016 from the Store, OneNote 2016 is not included. You’re supposed to use (the UWP) OneNote for Windows 10 instead.

But OneNote 2016 is available in the Windows Store. And unlike the Office 2016 suites, which are currently limited in availability to Surface Laptop owners and some Windows Insiders, anyone with Windows 10 can download and install it.

Despite a worrying initial sign-in that suggests you need an Azure AD account, I’ve verified that it works on a Windows 10 S desktop PC. So that’s a good sign. And, yes, I was able to sign into it with my Microsoft account.

Thanks to Microsoft’s William Devereux for the tip. You can find out more about OneNote 2016 availability in the Store from the Microsoft website.

I think this is excellent news that the old version is now in the store. However, as a heavy OneNote user, the UWP version is leagues better than the old version of OneNote. Not only is there feature parity, but there's more features in the UWP version that are laid out in better ways with better accessibility. I for one am sticking with the UWP version.

Thanks for the heads-up. The UWP version just wasn't cutting it in my work environment.

Are the Office programs only "containerized" if downloaded from the Windows Store? Are there any feature differences found in the Store versions?

Will this work for Office365 Business users? When I click Install from the store I get taken to my personal O365 account and need to get this using my business account instead.
