Snapchat is introducing its new iPhone X-exclusive face filters today. The new iPhone X-exclusive filters, first announced by Apple during the initial announcement of the iPhone X back in September 2017.
Many expected the new iPhone X-exclusive face filters from Snapchat to be available on release day, November 3, 2017. But the face filters were nowhere to be seen. And now, more than 6 months after the release of the iPhone X, Snapchat is releasing these exclusive filters powered by the iPhone X’s TrueDepth camera. To kick things off, Snapchat is releasing 3 face filters for the iPhone X, though it’s not clear whether that will increase with future updates.

Snapchat’s regular face filters are already incredibly accurate. But the new, exclusive face filters for the iPhone X are using the device’s TrueDepth camera system which means users will get an increased level of accuracy. The iPhone X’s TrueDepth camera system uses 30 thousand infrared dots to track your face movements, and it powers native features like Animojis and FaceID on the iPhone X. Using the TrueDepth camera system instead of its own, software-powered tech for face tracking will essentially allow for improved accuracy.
The “improved” accuracy here isn’t easily noticeable, but you may be able to notice improved tracking for expressions, or when you are constantly moving your head. It’s almost like a gimmick.
