Facebook Reportedly Working on New Dark Mode for Mobile

Facebook announced a major redesign for its platform back in April. The new redesign, dubbed FB5, introduces a brand-new look for Facebook on the web, as well as a dark mode, set to come soon. But on mobile, the company said it will only have a dark mode for Facebook Watch.

And that could be changing soon.

According to a new report from Jane Manchun Wong, Facebook is working on a new dark mode. Wong found code indicating that Facebook has started implementing a full-blown dark mode on its Android app, though the implementation is very rough and in the early stages from the looks of things. Wong says Facebook has even reworked parts of the app to support this new dark mode.

Facebook hasn’t said it will launch a full-blown dark mode on mobile devices as of yet. The new FB5 redesign introduces a design that’s really bright, and this new dark mode could help tackle that problem for those who aren’t a fan of bright interfaces. And it will also allow Facebook to look good when Android and iOS get the native, OS-wide dark modes later this year.
