Instagram Introduces New Measures to Fight Coronavirus Misinformation

Instagram is taking new steps to protect users from misinformation about coronavirus on its social network. The move comes following Facebook’s recent commitments as part of a joint industry statement on protecting users online from misinformation about coronavirus.

Instagram is introducing new features and information on its app to help users get the most accurate information on coronavirus. When a user searches for things related to the virus, for example, Instagram will proactively connect them to resources from the World Health Organization.

Moreover, Instagram is introducing new stickers to promote social distancing, hand washing, etc. The social network will also be removing all coronavirus-related accounts from account recommendations, and it will remove content related to the virus from the Explore tab as well.

And to help people stay connected during all these lockdowns, Instagram is introducing a new Co-Watching feature on Instagram Direct video chat. The new feature allows users to browse their saved, liked, and suggested photos/videos during a video call together.
