Opera announced today that it is partnering with Google to integrate Gemini into its web browsers. The new offering is called Opera AI, and it replaces Aria, Opera’s original in-browser AI solution.
“AI is reshaping how people interact with the web, and the browser is the natural entry point for those experiences,” Opera executive vice president Per Wetterdal says. “Through our partnership with Google, we are able to offer users the experiences they really want through native search and AI features, for free, directly in their Opera One and Opera GX browsers while our most advanced users of the agentic Opera Neon browser are already getting access to Gemini 3 Pro.”
With this change, Opera One, Opera GX, and Opera Neon users gain access to the latest Gemini AI models via a new Opera AI side panel in each browser. This allows users to interact with the content they see online, ask questions, do deeper research, get summaries, and compare different tabs. Opera AI includes voice input and output, of course, and it’s been rebuilt and optimized for speed using a new architecture originally created for the Neon agentic browser.
“The browser is emerging as one of the most important frontends for AI,” Opera notes. “Unlike a standalone chat interface, the browser has access to real-time context such as a user’s open tabs, page content, and browsing flows. This enables more relevant and efficient assistance, supporting task completion directly within the browsing experience.”
