Google Releases Android Studio Dolphin

Google today released Android Studio Dolphin, the latest stable version of its Android integrated development environment (IDE).

“The Android Studio team took a deep dive into making it easier to make high-quality apps with the latest stable release of Android Studio Dolphin, version 2021.3.1,” Google’s Yuri Blaise writes. “This release focuses on three key themes: Jetpack Compose, Wear OS, and development productivity.”

For those using Jetpack Compose, Android Studio Dolphin lets you preview multiple screens and animations, and a new Compose UI counter in the Layout Inspector now keeps track of when your app UI recomposes.

New Wear OS features include Wear OS 3 support for apps, tiles, and watch faces, an updated Wear OS Emulator, a Pairing Assistant, and new deployment workflows for launch tiles and watch faces.

And for developer productivity, Dolphin adds Gradle Managed Virtual Devices so you can centrally manage your test devices.

You can download Android Studio from the Android Developer website. If you’re already using Android Studio, you can update to Dolphin today from within the application.
