Google Releases Android 14 Beta 4

Installing Android 14 Beta 4

Google today announced the release of Android 14 Beta 4, which expands this pre-release system to include Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet.

“Today we’re bringing you Android 14 Beta 4, continuing our work on polish and performance as we get closer to the general availability release of Android 14,” Google vice president Dave Burke writes in the announcement post. “Beta 4 is available for Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold, in addition to the rest of the supported Pixel family, so you can test your applications on devices spanning multiple form factors and directly experience the work we’re doing to improve the large-screen and foldable device experience.”

Beta 4 is the second Platform Stable release of Android 14, meaning that all developer APIs and app-facing behaviors are final, and developers can now integrate them into their apps and publish them on Google Play. Naturally, Android 14-specific features will only work on devices running Android 14.

To get started with Android 14 Beta 4, you can install it on any supported Pixel—including the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet—or use a device emulator with Android Studio. Google recommends Android Studio Hedgehog, which is now in preview, as it includes the new Android SDK Upgrade Assistant that will help with app migration.
