Laptop for college Freshman

With all of the changes that seem to be coming to computers this year, I was having a hard time deciding what to get her before she started college. She has some pretty specific wants also and I’m not sure if I should buy now or wait until as close to the start of school as I can with new things being released and if it would be to risky to go with an ARM computer when they come out?

She wants a 2-in-1 with good pen support. I thought she could go with a MacBook and an iPad, but she’d rather have one device and hates that the Mac does not have a touch screen. She didn’t like the keyboard on the Surface since she sits in bed while typing most of the time and needed something stiffer.

I guess the question comes down to what 2-in-1 would have good pen support other than a Surface, and when should I buy it? I thought the Samsung Galaxy Books would probably have good pen support? Another option is buying something cheap for the first year and then replacing it next year when more is known about ARM-based computers and Intel comes out with their new line.

She is planning on becoming a middle school or high school math teacher.
