So, I finally made the jump that I was building up courage (and finances) and ordered a DIY edition of the 13 inch Framework laptop. And Linux will be the driving OS on it. I am trying to become less dependent on Big Tech, and after a nice career in IT that was facilitated by Big Tech, I use more and more FOSS technologies to not only drive my daily work, but also to build my projects. I cannot leave Big Tech completely behind as of right now, but I will try to eliminate as much as possible. My main desktop PC is already a Linux machine, and to be honest, even though I use Microsoft 365 daily, I am not limited by Microsoft’s PWAs.
What next? To decouple from Google on the mobile side. I am thinking of Fairphone with /e/OS to replace my current Fold 5. But the drive to self repair and self maintain and not be limited by what Big Tech is trying to force on me is getting stronger everyday that I live in this enshitified world.
I am not FOSS advocate. My salary is paid by proprietary software. But I just see no real alternative to a world where the very tools I use are used to milk me and and force upon me someone else’s agenda.
