Don’t worry boys, I got your back! Toxic male review bombing for Star War (The Acolyte)

I’d like to clarify the text below: As you may or may not know, I don’t watch Sci-Fi or Superhero movies, but I’m on X and this show “The Acolyte” is something that’s catching the attention of users with various interests, including mine. I found something odd and quite political, which I’m not sure why it’s being promoted. Having been part of this community for almost a year now, I’ve noticed the love for Star Wars and sci-fi in general. The mention of “Toxic Male Review Bombing” intrigued me. While I’m not tasked to write a comprehensive report about this, I did take a few minutes to look at data from the Cinema Org and their findings report. I broke down the significant findings according to the statistics.

As a market research consultant and a data analyst, The following claim is statistically invalid

The claim: Review bombing is done by a “toxic male audience.”

The audience review is at 14%, and statistics indicate an equal split in cinema attendance between genders.

To further illustrate:

Aggregate cinema statistics for ‘genre’ cross-tabulated by gender.

This chart illustrates that Sci-Fi and Superhero cinemas do not primarily attract a male audience.

The chart displays a cross-tab of movie genres

Rating (mean) is male and female audience and male and female professional critics.

The differences aren’t significant unless the data is weighted. Males (75%) are more likely to write/post a review than females (1 in 4)
