AI powered search and apps….cool 🥱

Gumpy geek: Am I the only one that doesn’t think all the AI hype is just…well hype? I know ChatGPT and Bing have had millions of hits and views and shares and news stories. But at the end of the day people were just there because it’s a new internet fad and to share what clever and cool AI result they came up with. That’s 100% fad and not utilitarian.

We all rush to whatever is easily accessible via the internet when it’s trending and “everyone” is talking about, that’s normal but it’s also no revolutionary as a majority of tech headlines suggest. Can anyone say Wordle lol.

Once this hype blows over we all are still searching the same things as before “what is AI” “when did WWII start” “why does my hip hurt” and then we gravitate to the result we like or what gives us the answer faster (going to sites that aren’t covered in ads).

I also think the tech majors have a big case of FOMO with trending tech like this and a combination of calculated risk. I feel like they’re stuck between a rock and a hard place, damn if they do and damned if they don’t. I’m sure if Microsoft didn’t jump on AI like they have tech jounralists would be writing pieces about how behind the times they are. And if they didn’t have success or great engagement with it like Google has then they’d write about how they failed at it.

I don’t know I think months from now and especially next year we won’t be talking about how game changing AI is…when it comes to having a utilitarian value to users. I think it’ll be up there with grammar checking or just having help with writing a paper or prompts.

Am I totally wrong and just grouchy 😑👴?
