So my nerd friends and I were texting about how badly Microsoft messed up with the naming and branding of CoPilot and Windows. It’s like the Windows name and brand are going further and further down the line of Microsoft products…like their health wrist band lol. Verus what Apple has done with AI, making it a feature of MacOS that still comes first before the features.
Windows used to have this air, this reputation of doing fun things at home, playing PC games, surfing the web, and doing creative stuff with all the third-party software available.
CoPilot + PC sounds like it has nothing to do with Windows or Microsoft when you hear it and even see the logo…unless you already know that the CoPilot logo belongs to Microsoft. I mean for all a tech normie knows walking into BestBuy or going on Amazon looking for a laptop, it’s something different from Microsoft and Windows. So it could lead to a simple “yeah pass” in their mind and move onto another laptop that doesn’t have that naming convention on it.
Visually in my mind, it’s like MacOS is at the top and features like Apple Intelligence are underneath it, propping up MacOS along with other features. Whereas CoPilot + PC is above Windows and “that’s” the reason to buy the laptop not “Windows”. I don’t know if that makes sense when I type it out lol.
I don’t know what do ya’ll think of the naming convention and the branding versus MacOS, which to me is a legit competitor for home PC considering how popular the iPhone is now in the U.S. along with iPads. I mean iPads are all over the place in public school use. Microsoft will be just fine either way of course. But still, I think their marketing team and whoever signed off on it, Nadella or whoever else messed this one up we think.
