YouTube and YouTube TV come back to Roku

I just received this email:

The YouTube TV app is available in the Roku Channel Store

Hi Paul,

We have good news: The YouTube TV app is back in the Roku Channel Store. A few months ago, we let you know that our agreement with Roku had expired and that the app would not be available for new downloads in the store.

Today, we are happy to share that we have since reached a deal with Roku to continue distributing the YouTube and YouTube TV apps on Roku devices. This means the YouTube TV app is once again available in the Roku Channel Store for both new and existing members. You will still have the option to access YouTube TV via the YouTube app if you would like.

Thanks for being a YouTube TV member.

Sincerely,
The YouTube TV team

Did these apps get pulled from Roku devices where they were installed or were they just unavailable to download while all of this was sorted out?

They must have only been unavailable to download. I use the YouTube app frequently on my Roku and it never left or stopped working. Can’t talk to YouTube TV though.

I am relieved to hear this news, although I was planning for the worst. My Roku TV that we use the YouTube TV app became unstable so knowing that I could not reinstall the app from ROKU switched to a Amazon 4K stick.

Problem for ROKU now is that I actually like the Amazon interface better now that it has been improved and ROKU’s is looking a bit clunky these days. I may just stick with Amazon.
