Quick question about Android P: when you enable the iPhone X-like gesture mode, do you gain some vertical real estate? So there is more content on the screen? I’m not able to check for myself 🙁

No it's the same because the navigation at the bottom would fade away at certain times and would be there other times so that all works the same. The main "pill" shaped button that is there now is in the same spot the round button was so net, net it's the same.

Right now, no. There is still a (slightly smaller) navigation bar at the bottom in apps. I hope they change that but it may be an app compat thing.

In reply to paul-thurrott:

Paul could you keep an eye on this for Google's first party apps? I think they are going to do this soon, so, in effect, the phones will be even wider than 16:9 or 18:9, it'll probably take apps a while to take advantage of the extra space

Since it was released today, can anyone provide an update on this? It's interesting if apps gain even more vertical real estate when gesture navigation is enabled
