OpenWeb/Thurrott.com comments posting not working for you?

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note for anyone who has had problems posting comments over the last couple of days, or anyone who uses a PiHole, NextDNS or similar DNS content blocking services.

I started having problems from Friday to Saturday, that the comments were being shown, but there was a “log in” button at the top of the comments and it wasn’t replaced after a second or so with my user profile icon, even though I was logged in.

For me, this was only happening on my Mac, my iPhone and iPad still worked fine, but it wasn’t working on every browser (Safari, Brave and Opera). I tried several things, including flushing DNS, but it still didn’t work. Then, last night my iPad had the same problem.

It turns out that there was a change either in the way OpenWeb works or one of the block lists was updated. The domain *.spot.im was being blocked and OpenWeb is using this as a forwarding domain to load the OpenWeb comments here on Thurrott.com. I added that to my allow list and everything is working again.
