Xbox’s new strategy going forward = Game Pass everywhere

So this week we should learn about what the new Xbox Strategy is and it made me think that they might just follow the “Netflix” model going forward. What might happen is Xbox shifts its focus to Game Pass, and this becomes the service that is available across multiple platforms, including Xbox’s own hardware.

Xbox would still have exclusive games, but they would be in Game Pass. For example, Starfield and Halo would be exclusive to Game Pass but if you had the subscription on say a PlayStation you could play the games. This is again just like Netflix does. They have exclusive content for Netflix, but you can get the service on many different devices.

With the next iOS update, 17.4, Apple will allow the full gaming services such as Game Pass to allow for playing games directly and the timing is set to happen in March. So, it makes since that Microsoft would talk about its new direction going forward this week.

If you want to play a Microsoft exclusive game, or hundreds of other games, on a wide range of approved devices, you just have to have the Game Pass subscription. This opens up millions of new gamers that would want to play exclusive games including Gears of War, Halo, Starfield, and one day Call of Duty. Not to mention so many other titles they have rights to and are working on.

Console wise, yes, they could create a top tier console but also allow approved devices to work with the service. This keeps the ability to mod and control the experience the same for everyone.

Anyway, just my thoughts on what could be the future of Xbox. Not in hardware, but in the services and exclusive games it provides.
