Surface Book – first gen refurb deal?

I see there are first gen surface books (refurb) going for $969 for the core i5, 256gb ssd and 8gb ram.

I originally was going to get a surface pro 4 but really like the larger screen of the surface book and solid keyboard.

Thoughts? Have the kinks been worked out of the first generation or stay clear?

It's could to be hit or miss: Some of these will be just fine. Some will have problems. Is this directly from Microsoft? Can you return it if it doesn't work out?

$969 is a lot of money to spend on a 6th gen core i5 system that's over 2 years old. The improved performance of the 8th gen quad-core Intel ultrabook CPU is so nice to have. I would stay clear unless there is a generous refund policy.

What do you intend to use the device for? If it's for casual use and it's later iteration of the hardware, then it should be fine – but I would only buy this if direct from msft.
