The plans for the data centers in Bergheim and Bedburg have been known since 2024. Now Elsdorf is also getting a piece of the pie.

Elsdorf will be another location for Microsoft’s planned hyperscale data center in the Rhein-Erft district. A city spokesperson announced this on Friday morning (September 12). It was announced in 2024 that data centers would be built in Bedburg and Bergheim.

After intensive discussions and successful negotiations, the city of Elsdorf and the company have agreed to the sale of two strategically important properties. The approximately 26-hectare site – located one kilometer south of Heppendorf – with its connection to the A4 motorway, offers ideal conditions for a state-of-the-art data center, according to a statement.

Elsdorf politicians had already passed the resolution to establish a development plan for an industrial park at this location in 2021. In addition to its good infrastructure, Elsdorf also offers attractive prospects for skilled workers: “The planned residential construction projects, particularly in Heppendorf, as well as new recreational and leisure areas on the edge of the open-cast mine, create a livable environment that attracts and retains employees,” it continues.
