Problem with Cortana Android app re: "skills"/"My Day"/Cortana Home Page

Hello! So I’ve installed the Cortana app on my S9+, and I’m trying to customize it to my liking. For one thing, I don’t want any of those “skills” cards on the “home screen” of Cortana. I went in under Notebook and turned off all of the skills, as well as went into the Interests tab and removed everything there, and yet, as you can see from the screen grab, I still have Top News, Weather, and a box for todo lists showing up.

I’ve been looking on the internet for an hour now about this issue, and it looks like the settings and notebook options have been changed significantly in the last 6 months or so, so apologies if this is an obvious answer, but a lot of guides didn’t work for me because they referred to options I don’t see.

Can anyone help me with this?

Can't help you much , I remember you have to set skills through web site not app. Either sign in Cortana on Win 10 machine or Microsoft account and access you Cortana settings there. After making changes it will sync and should do what you want. Hope that helps, I don't use Cortana so this is more what I gathered from others.
