Onenote Inconsistency – looking for other options

I’ve used Onenote since it first came out. I’ve loved it. Then Microsoft started creating confusion with all the different versions. But I finally got used to the newold?? desktop client version that moved all navigation to the left hand side. And it’s the exact same layout that I have on my Macbook Pro at work.

But I just purchased a new Surface Pro 9 (almost, almost bought a Mac) and reinstalling everything and…….the only Onenote available is the oldnew?? version with the navigation on the right, notebooks on the top, and books on the top.

What.the.heck.is.going.on. Why must everything Microsoft does be a constant struggle?

Has anyone successfully moved from OneNote to Notion? I tried Evernote years ago and didn’t like it. Any thoughts on Notion?
