Broken update still there after 4 months

This update is hung on one of my machines and still no resolution nor information on when/how/even if it will get resolved.

Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus antimalware platform – KB4052623 (Version 4.18.24030.9) – Current Channel (Broad)

Install error – 0x80070643

Apparently the failure occurs when updating the WinRE recovery partition. The default size created by an Windows install is too small. The proffered resolution (so far) is to shrink the main partition and resize the WinRE partition! I can see normal users eyes glazing over or worse they try doing this and completely bork their machine. I have tried it and it still didn’t work because now the update says there is no WinRE OS on the partition even though it’s created and typed correctly. The update is even failing on machines that have NO recovery partition.

Point of the post is Microsoft’s complete failure in it’s ability to maintain Windows. And suggesting a solution that is way beyond the normal users comprehension.
