I really hope not but it seems they’ve cancelled the UWP File Explorer. It wouldn’t have only brought touchscreen improvements but long missing touches such as “smooth scrolling” too. Does anyone know anything about this?

according to the reporters at windows central, it is still in the works. But I think Microsoft isn't going to make the mistake again of alienating the majority of desktop users just to make a touch friendly UWP version of something. UWP File Explorer will need to bring significant benefits for desktop users over the current File Explorer before it gets validated.

Have you tried to use the UWP File Explorer? It's missing a fair amount of functionality. If all UWP apps are secure, could UWP File Explorer usefully run as Administrator? Can it display directory contents in Details view? Can it show hidden or system files? Is there any means of direct navigation similar to typing in Win32 File Explorer's address bar?

I just tried it out again, and it either hasn't been updated in a while, or its developers' focus isn't on feature parity with the Win32 version.
