IT Desktop (Over)Engineering Strikes Again

So, I just got my work laptop back from IT, after they upgraded it to Windows 11, and I am absolutely gob smacked at one setting they decided to impose (as well as how they chose to implement it). First, let me say that I’m particular about how I set up my workspaces. And so I was frustrated to realize that my company’s beloved Desktop Engineering team has customized our standard Windows 11 software image to left align the taskbar buttons. So, I proceeded to go into taskbar settings and rearrange them to the center, which I’ve grown accustomed to over the last couple of years using Windows 11.

On reboot, some kind of logon script runs, and the taskbar buttons slide back over to the left. And while I can certainly override this again and again, it seems that every time I reboot the machine, the configuration is going to be reset by this script.

Look, I get it…IT wants a standard configuration for the Windows desktop UI for supportability, and that’s fine. But to implement it in such a ham-fisted way is beyond maddening. The fact that it overrides my choice seems like it would create more support problems than just disabling the taskbar layout customization option in settings in the first place.

I poked around a bit to see if I could figure out where this script is being defined, but no joy so far. If anyone has a suggestion where I might look, please let me know. Thanks!
