New app ‘Microsoft Pay’ in Microsoft Store?

Yesterday, I noticed that a new app named ‘Microsoft Pay’ was installed in the download history of the Microsoft Store on my primary PC (running Windows 10 1709 build 16299.64).

It doesn’t expose any shortcuts via the Start Menu, nor does it offer a launch button in the app details in the store.

Is Microsoft consolidating their payment platform used for Microsoft accounts, or launching a new mobile+desktop payment platform?

As I understand it MS Pay will only function on the later W10 versions. In theory that would rule out WM although I've read some users claiming it works on older versions.

I'm sure how successful it will be however. A user would need a MS account and be using Edge. Even then, you would have to find retailers who use MS Pay. It difficult to imagine many cases where the stars align for all that to happen.
